What you will do

You will be conducting a range of tasks in the Vehicle Repair Bay in support of the RNZAF at Base Auckland in Whenuapai. Tasks include maintenance and repair of Vehicles and Trailers, Materiel Handling Equipment and various powered Ground Support Equipment.

This position is also responsible is for managing the MITO (motor industry training organization) training requirements for our apprentices and coordinating with the Trade Training Manager theory and practical tasks for each apprentice, as well as coordinating post graduate courses and continuation training. So you will have direct contact with MITO and other training providers and the RNZAF Trade Training Manager.

In this role you will be the 2IC of the bay and will be required to hold the required supervision qualification that will allow you to run the bay in the absence of the normal bay supervisor.

What we need We are seeking a person with significant knowledge of automotive maintenance; this also includes experience with general engineering tools, plant and workshop practices.  Specifically you will be an expert in the operation and maintenance of diesel engines and heavy vehicle chassis, drive-train, suspension and ancillary equipment. Combined with this you will also need to have a good knowledge base of hydraulic operating systems, mechanical systems and processes. Experience within the Aviation industry would be an advantage.  

Being used to a workshop environment you will understand the reporting, documentation and computerised maintenance management system that drives the outputs. Within this role you will also be supervising/overseeing more junior tradesman, giving you the opportunity to pass on your knowledge and expertise.  

A good level of computer literacy is needed including experience of using a computerized maintenance management system. A class 1 and class 2 driver license are essential, class 3, 4 and 5 are desirable. You do need to be able to attain a DG endorsement if you don't already have it.

Who we are

The Maintenance Support Squadron at RNZAF Base Auckland is part of the Air Force Maintenance Wing and is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of airworthiness products and services to RNZAF Operational Units. To achieve that the Squadron is divided into specialist work units namely an Armament Flight, Component Maintenance Flight, Aeronautical Engineering support Flight, Technical Support Ground Support Equipment, Ground Support Equipment Maintenance Flight and Safety and Surface Flight along with Headquarters command element.
