An exciting opportunity to lead and develop this passionate science team, communicating science strategy and delivering on research and development projects in finfish breeding, culture and husbandry.
What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Science Group Leader – Seafood Production, you will lead our Culture and Husbandry Technologies Team in the ongoing planning and delivery of research and development programmes in breeding, hatchery production and on-growing of fish. Collaborating with colleagues and industry partners this role provides scientific, technical and people leadership, including mentoring and developing team members, associated students and post-docs.
You will divide your time between communicating science strategy, direction and research findings through scientific publications and presentations to clients and conferences, developing successful funding proposals and ensuring timely delivery of high quality science and commercial outputs. Managing and developing the hatchery facilities, this role will have responsibilities relating to live feed production and the husbandry of juvenile and broodstock fish populations.
What you’ll need
With a PhD degree in the biological sciences and/or significant industry experience in related fields, you will have proven experience in leading scientists and research and development programmes in marine fish reproductive physiology, marine hatchery, culture technology or related fields. Demonstrated competence in leading, collaborating and motivating scientific and technical teams and in delivering high quality science projects would be essential. Strong communication and collaboration skills together with a solutions focused attitude. As a natural problem solver you will develop and adopt new ideas whilst collaborating and engaging with colleagues and NZ’s aquaculture and seafood industries. The ability to work at sea on occasion will be essential.
