Auckland I Vacancy 40972

At Plant & Food Research, we believe science can create a better world. By working together, we can create the world’s most sustainable food production systems, delivering economic, environmental and social prosperity. Day-to-day, this looks like a team of 1,000 people working across Aotearoa New Zealand and the world to improve the way we grow, fish, harvest and share food. With our partners in the agrifood sector, we’re working to deliver a smart green future.

Our International Development Unit (IDU) is looking for two experienced Program Managers to join our team. The IDU partners with government, NGOs and commercial organisations to support sustainable development to reduce poverty and improve lives. Our current portfolio of projects in horticulture and seafood is concentrated in SE Asia and the Pacific but extends to Africa and the Caribbean. One Program Manager will have a strong Pacific focus as we look to expand our Pacific footprint in line with the New Zealand Government’s Pacific Reset Strategy, with the other having more of a Global focus looking to grow our footprint in Asia and Africa.

What you’ll be doing

As a seasoned international development professional, you will program manage a suite of projects within the IDU, together with contributing to the design and development of new projects. Stakeholder engagement and management will feature strongly in your role. We also anticipate that you will be able to contribute strongly to cross-cutting issues.

What you’ll need

To be successful in this role, you will have a Masters in International Development or a relevant business or technical discipline as well as equivalent experience in international development. You will have proven experience as a Program Manager, preferably with in-country experience. For the Pacific role you will have a strong understanding of one or more Pacific cultures, with your ability to speak, read, or write a Pacific Island language advantageous. Your connection, appreciation, and respect for Pacific cultures and traditions will be a valuable contribution to this role. You will be a collaborative team member and have an ability to demonstrate an understanding of best practice approaches to international development.

What you’ll get

The opportunity to apply your leadership capability; combining your interests in people, program management and international development to foster a positive, collaborative culture and deliver on international development programs. Joining a passionate team at our Head Office in Auckland, your benefits include access to additional leave entitlements, health insurance and a generous superannuation contribution.
