What’s the role?

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic salesperson, to join our South Island Sales team as an Account Manager in Dunedin. The ideal individual will have an entrepreneurial spirit and be hungry to succeed, taking their earning potential into their own hands. This is no ordinary sales job, as ours is a uniquely high-performing and supportive working culture.

Who is Hilti?

If you’re new to the industry, you might not have heard of us. We are a global leader in providing cutting-edge tools, technologies, software and services for the global construction sector. We have a proud heritage, built over 75 years, and a worldwide reputation for pioneering products and exceptional service. With 30,000 people in more than 120 countries, which we’re looking to expand, we’re a great place for you to show us your worth, step up to new challenges and grow your career. In New Zealand, we have been operating for 20 years and currently have over 100 team members across multiple disciplines, from Whangarei to Invercargill.

What does the role involve?

As an account manager, no two days are the same but you’ll spend most of your time visiting our customers, wherever they’re busy working, to find out how we can help them.

You could find yourself on construction sites or in offices and warehouses. You need to be happy to get your hands dirty but also be able to adapt your approach to the customer in front of you – it could be a senior management team one day and a sole trader the next.

Ours is a model of professional consultative selling, and it’s a really hands-on job. It means rolling up your sleeves to demonstrate some of the most pioneering products in the industry, along with all the services and after-care that come with the Hilti name. Far from traditional cold calling, it’s about nurturing relationships and developing contacts on site with warm customers and helping them find the most innovative and cost-efficient solutions for their needs.

You’ll be managing your own time – your van is your office and you’ll be responsible for setting your own diary to ensure you’re visiting your customers when they need you so you need to be a self-starter who is comfortable working autonomously. You’ll be part of a supportive, field-based regional team who are only a phone call away but you’ll be working by yourself on the whole, so you need to be comfortable with building relationships remotely and motivating yourself.

We’ll teach you everything you need to know about our products, the IT systems you’ll use on the job and advanced sales skills – you just need to be motivated to learn.

Hilti has over 30,000 employees in more than 120 countries.

What do we offer?

We’ll give you everything you need to excel in your role. You’ll enjoy a rare combination of autonomy and camaraderie, as you’ll manage your own diary while being part of a fun and diverse team.

We’ll give you lots of responsibility, including your own portfolio of customers; these might be trades experts, project managers or company leaders. From there, we’ll trust you to do whatever it takes to deliver outstanding results. Go the extra mile and we’ll reward you with training, development and career opportunities as soon as you’re ready for the next challenge.

Day to day, you’ll report to your Area Sales Manager, who will also be there to help you manage your career. However, at Hilti, you ‘own’ your own development.

Why should you apply?

We have an excellent mix of people and some of our best team members joined us with no industry experience. So, if you’ve never worked in construction, that’s fine with us. Success at Hilti is down to teamwork and ability, no matter what your background.

What you need is:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Degree in Engineering preferred but not essential
  • Commitment, courage and competitive drive
  • A thirst to learn and challenge yourself
  • Sales/Trade background/Customer service/retail experience desirable.
