Reporting to the Team Leader Financial Accounting, we are looking for an experienced Accountant in our Finance team to provide efficient, effective and client focused accounting processing and reporting services.

This position assists with the effective management of the day to day transactions processing and internal and external reporting requirements of the Department’s finance function.  The role contributes to ensuring that the quality and integrity of financial information reported on by the Financial Accounting team is of an excellent standard.

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • Experience working with a large FMIS, particularly general ledger and the preparation of monthly accounts
  • Good knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of products, particularly Excel and Word skills
  • Knowledge of New Zealand Accounting Standards (PBE IPSAS) and the Public Finance Act
  • Experience in advising and assisting junior staff with financial accounting requirements and acting team leader when required are desirable
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to wide ranging audiences, including sound interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop successful relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage own time, plan and prioritise quality assurance activities, maintain a focus on achieving results and to manage all aspects within specified timeframes
  • Knowledge of Crown/Departmental management accounting requirements, particularly Public Finance Act requirements
  • A tertiary qualification (at least equivalent to Bachelors) and/or Qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

To join Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa in any role you must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident*. Because of the nature of Customs’ work, you must have a clear Police record. Organisational security clearances are mandatory and are conducted by Customs before any job offers are made. You are also required to pass a drug test.
