The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is responsible for ‘Growing and Protecting New Zealand’. It’s no mean feat and we have a team of hard working and dedicated people in a variety of roles supporting us to make this happen. MPI provides a range of services to ensure New Zealand is protected from biological risk and that the food New Zealand businesses produce is safe and suitable for us all to consume. Our overall ambition is for New Zealand to be the most trusted source of high value natural products in the world. Join us to help this ambition become a reality.
About the Branch and the Team:
The Māori Strategy, Policy and Partnerships Directorate of MPI provides information, intelligence and advice on issues specific to Māori primary sector asset development. It ensures MPI is well connected and engaged with relevant Māori fora, initiatives and people, and provides advice on Māori-related issues and impacts in the primary sector. A significant part of the role is helping Māori organisations and landowners to access a range of partnership and programme opportunities, which can assist them to develop their natural resource-based assets.
The Māori Strategy, Policy and Partnerships Directorate is located in the Sector Partnerships and Programmes (SPP) branch. This branch works with land owners, industry organisations, farmers, fishers, growers, foresters and researchers to contribute to the growth of New Zealand’s primary industries. Our suite of partnerships and programmes intertwine to achieve the same overall goal of unlocking primary sector growth potential.
We are looking for an Adviser to join MSPP. Reporting through to the Director Māori Strategy Policy & Partnerships, you will be helping to develop strategies, policies and initiatives which support Māori to increase sustainable primary sector productivity. While you would be working within a small and focussed team in Wellington, you would regularly be drawing on the expertise of our regionally based team members to connect to Māori in the primary sector.
You would also have an important role in providing advice to senior leaders in MPI on matters of strategic and operational importance for Māori in the primary sector. This would require you to stay abreast of relevant organisational, industry or stakeholder issues that impact on MPIs ability to deliver for Māori.
Knowledge and experience of tikanga Māori and the issues affecting Māori agribusiness and land utilisation would be beneficial in this role.
