Advisor – Clearance
About the LINZ Clearances Team
As a thriving part of our Crown Property business unit, our Clearances team has an important role to play in the buying, use and disposal of land assets across New Zealand. Working in close collaboration with a variety of other Government Agencies, we play an active role in enabling major housing, roading or infrastructure projects to proceed, to keep New Zealand moving forwards. We work closely with a variety of Government Agencies, particularly Waka Kotahi and support the work they are doing.
About the Role
Our Clearances team has a major role to play in facilitating timely and efficient land acquisitions for a number of large, nationwide projects over the next 5 years. These projects will significantly boost productivity across road, rail, public transport, walking and cycling infrastructure. To support our role in achieving these goals, we have an Advisor, Clearances role available.
Our Clearances team is made up of enthusiastic and technically savvy professionals. Day to day, they manage quality assurance on work submitted by accredited suppliers acting for vendor agencies and make strong, reason based statutory decisions under delegation. We’re looking for someone who is energetic, Agile and collaborative and is seeking to further build on their existing experience and build a knowledge of the Public Works Act to provide technical expertise on Clearances issues, both inside and outside the team.
This role offers you the opportunity to take the next step in your professional development and support our team to manage intellectually challenging pieces of work in a more autonomous way. With your continuous improvement focused mindset, you’ll be well positioned to help us continue building the strategic agility within the Clearances team and provide technical insight to contribute to the review of legislation from a Clearances perspective.
Ideally, you’ll join us with previous experience in property, interpreting legislation, case law, standards & guidelines pragmatically – but we’re not particular about which industry you’ve gained this ability in, as long as you are interested in the NZ land and property industry and are willing to build a new area of subject matter expertise. These capabilities, combined with your excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, will see you build strong networks amongst external service providers and internal colleagues. As part of your ongoing development, you’ll develop the foresight to scan internal and external environments for issues that may be of concern and actively propose appropriate solutions or interventions. With your strong written communication skills, you’ll be comfortable reviewing others work and apply a critical thinking lens and insightful feedback, particularly which may include dealing with sensitive and complex subject matter.
At LINZ we aim to set our new staff up for success, long-term opportunities for professional development and enjoyable career pathways with us. To help you in this role, you may have previous professional experience in a valuation, property, conveyancing, or legal background. Strong written communication skills, scrupulous attention to detail and a focus on quality assurance, excellent record keeping, and workload prioritization skills will be essential.
