Te Puni Kōkiri is the Ministry of Māori Development a government agency that is the principal policy advisor to the Government on Māori outcomes.

As an Advisor, Communications you will be a key part of the team that contributes to the enhancement of the Ministry’s reputation across the Public Sector, Media, Government and Māori by providing specialist advice and support across Te Puni Kōkiri for the planning, development and delivery of Māori communications.

You will work with the Communications team to ensure that the Ministry’s reputation and achievements is highlighted and expertly promoted across our channels. The position supports both internal and external communication needs, it also supports business partners to develop and implement kaupapa communications plans that are aligned to our overall communications strategy.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualification in Communications or other relevant experience
  • At least 3 – 5 years’ experience
  • Online and social media experience and use of Adobe suite
  • A strong understanding and working knowledge of the machinery of government
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Experience and expertise in communications tools and techniques
  • Well-developed relationship management skills to work with a broad range of people including senior management, staff, external media and external contractors
  • Previous experience working in a tikanga/kaupapa Māori environment
  • Fluency in te reo Māori would an advantage.
