We are looking for someone to help embed our new governance structure and support our governance maturity programme at the Ministry of Social Development (MSD).


About MSD

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is the lead agency for the social sector.  MSD provides policy advice, and delivers social services and assistance to young people, working age people, older people, and families, whānau and communities.  We work directly with New Zealanders of all ages to improve their social wellbeing.

The team provides advice and support to the Ministry’s leadership team and governance committees to help achieve the Ministry’s organisational outcomes.

About the Role

The Advisor Governance has responsibility for the Ministry’s internal governance committees enabling them to have an organisation-wide view of the business. They are action-focused with an emphasis on speed and efficiency. They also provide exceptional secretariat support with a high standard of business acumen. This role sits in a small governance team that shares responsibility for the Leadership Team and its governance committees.


About You

To be successful in the role, you will bring:

  • expert relationship management skills to connect professionally with our most senior leaders
  • high EQ and self-awareness to know when to speak, when to listen and when to act
  • excellent communication skills, particularly to identify when face-to-face contact is more warranted than an email or phone call
  • bigger picture vision while still focusing on the detail to get us there

  • sound understanding of the corporate governance environment, particularly within the public sector
  • a focus on excellence and delivery

Salary Range: $65,056.00 – $97,585.00
