If so, we would like you to apply for our new vacancy in the Provider Services (Legal Aid) team for an Advisor position.

Our team sits within Provider and Community Services and manages the quality assurance framework for legal aid providers. The Provider and Community Services unit is responsible for designing, developing, managing and monitoring the provision of legal and justice services through contracts with community-based providers. Providers include legal aid lawyers, Community Law Centres, support organisations, restorative justice services, and community crime and safety service providers. The unit is also responsible for Domestic Violence, and Victims’ Centre functions.

You will play an important role in assisting quality assurance in Legal Aid through managing the approval process for legal aid lawyers in allocated regions and assisting in our audit process. You will also respond to general and official correspondence requests including OIA requests. You will be working directly with legal aid providers, primarily through telephone and written communication.

You will also be responsible for providing high-quality written advice on the quality assurance processes and framework. You will have opportunities to provide support in the continuous improvement of our framework and work with varied internal and external stakeholders. 

To be successful in this position you would need:

  • a tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge skills, and experience – a law degree would be an advantage
  • knowledge of public sector processes
  • experience of working within regulatory frameworks
  • experience of relationship management and a demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders
  • well-developed written and oral communication skills.

Experience or knowledge of the legal system in New Zealand, and of legal aid, would be an advantage.

This job would suit you If you enjoy writing, problem solving, working through processes and helping people resolve their issues. The salary for this position ranges between $63,731 and $86,224 depending on skills and experience.
