This is an exciting role managing our capacity development and stakeholder engagement programmes for the National Science Challenge – Science for Technological Innovation – Kia Kotahi Mai: Te Ao Pūtaiao me Te Ao Hangarau (SfTI-TAPTAH).

The Challenge, one of 11 National Science Challenges, was launched in September 2015. We are one of New Zealand’s largest multi-organisational research teams collaborating with business to grow the New Zealand economy. The Challenge’s vision is that New Zealand is a vibrant and prosperous technology-driven economy, with new businesses offering high-value services and products that may not yet have been invented.

We need a skilled and experienced advisor who will be responsible for providing advice and support the strategy, policy and implementation of Vision Mātauranga (VM) and Capacity Development (CD) for the National Science Challenge. The tasks involved include data collection, data analysis and reporting, coordination, relationship management, and written deliverables (proposals, summaries, recommendations, action plans, etc) that support the wide VM and CD team.

You will use your experience and strong customer service focus to:

  • continue the development of a programme that meets the needs of the science community
  • work with the Challenge team and stakeholders to ensure sustained engagement
  • work cooperatively with our Kāhui Māori to support our Vision Mātauranga work programme as a priority for the Challenge
  • ensure the programme is meaningful, exciting and meets the needs of a dynamic technologically hungry economy.

To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in data collection, data analysis and providing advice and support to management team and decision makers
  • Proven experience in providing advice and assisting with development and implementation of organization strategy and policy
  • Previous experience of providing advice that’s aimed at helping deliver outcomes to Māori, industry and to New Zealand society would be advantageous.
  • Adept at building relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple responsibilities with competing deadlines and timelines
  • Flexible and able to respond effectively in a changing environment

The role is based in two Callaghan Innovation locations – Wellington and Gracefield in Lower Hutt. There is a possibility for the fixed-term to be extended beyond the six month period.
