Information Requests Analyst

Evidence, data and knowledge

You’re a cool cucumber with a bit of a sense of humour, but when the pressure is on you buckle down and deliver. You are a wiz with numbers and can hold your own connecting with customers (and completing the Dominion Post daily quiz).. You are politically aware and can be trusted to give timely and accurate advice to clients. You noticed an extra punctuation mark in the earlier sentence and it bugs you more than a little bit.

If this sounds like you, we’d like you to join the Information Requests team within the Evidence, Data and Knowledge Group of the Ministry of Education. This group plays the critical role of monitoring and reporting on New Zealand’s primary and secondary schools.

When you join us you will be called upon to respond to data requests from a wide variety of clients including Ministers, Officials, Media, and the Public. You’ll ensure our products are accurate, on time, and fit-for-purpose.

You will work closely with other advisors and analysts, both within and outside the Ministry.  Your work will play a key role in supporting the Ministry’s policy advice to the Government on a major area of the economy.

We’re looking for someone who can:

  • wrangle difficult data into easily consumed responses with a clear story
  • communicate confidently and effectively across a range of mediums
  • build and maintain a reputation as a trusted advisor and technical expert
  • embrace challenges and “near-impossible” tasks
  • work/play well with others

Your experience with SAS or another programming language will be particularly useful.

This position is permanent and located in the Ministry of Education’s National Office in Wellington. The Ministry is an Equal Opportunities Employer.
