Reporting to the Team Leader Financial Accounting, we are looking for an experienced Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team to provide efficient, effective and client focused accounting processing and reporting services. To be considered for this role you will have: An accounting degree, and working toward a NZICA Qualification with a minimum of two years financial accounting experience Experience working with a large FMIS, particularly general ledger and the preparation of monthly accounts Good knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of products, particularly Excel and Word skills Knowledge of New Zealand Accounting Standard (NZIFRS) and the Public Finance Act Demonstrates an appropriate level of detail orientation and seeks clarification from those more experienced when needed Knowledge of Crown/Departmental management accounting requirements, particularly Public Finance Act requirements Experience in advising and assisting junior staff with financial accounting requirements is desirable. Joining Customs To join Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa in any role you must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident*. Because of the nature of Customs’ work you must have a clear Police record. Organisational security clearances are mandatory and are conducted by Customs before job offers are made. You are also required to pass a drug test. (*) you need to have resided in New Zealand for the last five years. You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level.
