What you will do

As the Assistant Director Career and Talent Management Development (ADCTM Dev)  you will be responsible for providing support to the Director of Career Management with the provision of programmes, advice and coordination to enhance the Military Career and Talent Management process, policies and objectives across the NZDF.

You will:

  • Contribute to the development of NZDF’s Talent Management Strategy and related plans including deployment of innovation programmes that support NZDF military personnel; and
  • Strive for and demonstrate continuous improvement and professionalism across NZDF career management, at individual and collective levels across career management in Army, Navy, Air Force and the Enabling Portfolios.

As our ideal candidate you will be self-motivated with excellent planning and organisational skills in order to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines. Your experience will see you being able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and have the diplomacy to inspire and build confidence in others. 

You will need:

  • Experience in improving system quality and processes and a dedication to continuous improvement;
  • An understanding of project management, information management / systems, business analysis / intelligence and problem solving;
  • A working knowledge of contemporary career and talent management trends and issues;
  • To demonstrate an ability to work independently using sound judgement and initiative.

The Career and Talent Management Directorate supports the Chief of Defence Force (CDF), Service Chiefs and other portfolio leaders in the delivery of career and talent management for the NZDF. It provides the information and assistance to ensure the NZDF can meet its mission by ensuring it has the right people, in the right place, at right time, with right skills.

Career and Talent Management is focused on developing, monitoring and delivery of strategic, high quality, timely, accurate Career and Talent management support and services.

It is responsible for the development and implementation of Career and Talent Management strategies and initiatives as well as advising NZDF commanders and managers, enabling them to lead and manage their people effectively.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
