Are you an enthusiastic problem solver looking to make a real difference?

Would you like the opportunity to develop policy that aims to reduce harm to all New Zealanders?

If you are interested in a policy career and these questions spark your curiosity, then we want to hear from you!

About us

The purpose of New Zealand Police is for everyone to be safe and feel safe. Our mission is to be the safest country, and our people come to work to make a difference in the lives of everyday New Zealanders.

We are proud supporters of diversity and inclusion at New Zealand Police. We believe that people are our greatest asset. It’s our people that set us apart and build trust and confidence in communities. We support and encourage a culture where you can bring your whole self to work.

The role

The Policy and Partnerships Group within NZ Police is recruiting for Assistant Policy Advisors to join the Group, as we continue to grow.

The Group provides advice on a wide range of policy issues, from family harm, mental health, drugs and transport safety to firearms, organised crime, national security and terrorism.

The diversity of our business makes for a fascinating and challenging range of policy opportunities in the sectors we span. We provide strategically aligned policy advice whilst remaining firmly connected to operational demands and practice. The work environment is fast paced and dynamic, and our work affects New Zealanders every day.

Our work is delivered by four permanent policy teams (National Security and International; Justice; Transport and Crime Prevention). We have also established a temporary Firearms Policy team to deliver an ambitious work programme following the 15 March Christchurch terror attacks.

Appointments will be to the Group, and the positions may be placed in any of the policy teams. However, we’d be interested in hearing about your particular areas of interest.
