NIWA is Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading environmental science research institute and the key provider of atmospheric, freshwater, marine research and consultancy services. NIWA’s largest site, based at Greta Point Wellington, has a vacancy within its Site Services team.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated person with a good understanding of all aspects of building services, to work as part of a dynamic and responsive Site Services team. A high degree of organisation, excellent people-communication skills, and a current NZ driver’s licence are essential. This team also has responsibility for safe and efficient storage and retrieval of scientific equipment and stores.

The ideal applicant will have relevant working knowledge and experience of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC and refrigeration systems, as well as knowledge of Codes of Practice and Local Body requirements pertinent to building structure, services and compliance schedules. You will also have knowledge of the Worksafe Safety at Work legislation and safe work practices, be experienced in the operation and control of electronic security and building management systems, have experience with logistics and associated mechanical plant, and experience in operating warehouse or inventory management systems.

If you are a solution-focused self-starter with a strong service ethic, can demonstrate good technical skill, are organised and can work to a deadline, and are a team player who enjoys the dynamics of working within a team, then this is the challenge for you! The position provides the opportunity to be part of an institution with a strong environmental science focus and work within a team essential to maintaining the buildings, plant and equipment that allows this science to flourish.

You should have a NCEA Level 2 or equivalent, hold a current full NZ driver’s licence, have or be willing to obtain a Worksafe approved industrial lift truck operator’s certificate and a F endorsement. This position may encompass a range of roles and responsibilities, depending on the particular skills and experience of the successful applicant.

NIWA offers competitive remuneration and benefits and an attractive waterfront location in Wellington.
