The Fisheries Compliance team is currently seeking a Capability Development Officer.

This position will play a key role in aligning Fisheries Compliance processes and procedures to ensure we continue delivering effective and efficient services to our stakeholders and supporting a range of business issues, functions and projects for continuous improvement.

The Capability Development Officer will pay a leading role in ensuring delivery of a tailored training programme and competency framework that satisfies the desired objectives and outcomes.


Some key areas of responsibility include:-


  • Understand the business and performance needs and desired behaviour change required through learning and development programmes.
  • Ensure delivery of a training programme to frontline staff that is relevant, current and achieving desired outcomes.
  • Lead the continued application of the Competency Framework within the business
  • Continuous improvement of systems, business practices and procedures.
  • Be a champion of the FOCUS and SPECS systems to maximise and integrate use and benefits of these and other such systems.
  • Utilising data to enhance capability and development in the way fisheries compliance is delivered across the country.


Skills and experience required:


  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field
  • Excellent written, verbal and communication skills
  • Initiative, technical aptitude and sound judgement and analytical skills
  • Strong planning, organisational and time management skills
  • Experience in development and delivery of operational systems, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to develop and maintaining fruitful relationships with stakeholders
  • Demonstrated interest in developing others


A security clearance classification to the level of Confidential is required for this position. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain this clearance.
