Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the Role

Are you passionate about sustainable fisheries and compliant fishing activity?

Are you technically savvy and able to interact with a range of databases, intelligence tools and recorded visual footage software?

Do you have experience in a regulatory and enforcement environment?

The Fisheries Compliance Liaison and Coordination team (FCLC) coordinate and conduct analysis of commercial fishing activity to target and direct MPI fisheries compliance resources. We are now setting up a new small team responsible for analysing information arising from the implementation of cameras on-board fishing boats.

 

Mōu – About You

The Chief Compliance Officer – Digital Monitoring (Cameras) role will benefit from applicants with the following strengths and abilities:

  • Have strong leadership skills and proven ability in managing, mentoring and supporting others to succeed
  • Ability to plan and roll out fit for purpose policies and procedures that will deliver to the work programmes
  • Experience in interpreting and working within legislated frameworks
  • A compliance mind set, risk awareness, and the confidence to make sound decisions
  • Understanding of storage, handling, analysis and reporting of information in accordance with government policy, internal procedures, information security principles and evidential standards
  • Ability to formulate and provide strategic advise aligned with wider organisation frameworks and desired outcomes
  • A strong relationship builder who is able to engage, influence and collaborate with key stakeholders to get best results
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Have passion, motivation, a good attitude and sense of humour
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and its importance in NZ Fisheries.
