WorkSafe New Zealand is the nation’s primary work health and safety regulator. Its mission is to transform the performance of workplace health and safety to reduce the high death, injury and illness rates arising from work. Critical to the success of this 600-staffed Crown entity, is its ongoing commitment to build regulatory effectiveness, emphasise harm prevention and enhance system leadership.
In addition to its regulatory role, WorkSafe’s current strategy is also geared towards accelerating harm prevention in the system to improve health and safety in Aotearoa. By partnering with the Government on its Health and Safety at Work Strategy, working jointly with the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, WorkSafe is a key part of New Zealand’s 10-year platform for change. It does this by helping to align critical parts of the system, working with workers, representatives and unions, businesses and stakeholders directly.
The Board now seeks to appoint a high-calibre Chief Executive who can continue to take the organisation forward and build on its reputation to pursue cultural and transformational change in health and safety standards in the workplace.
As a proven and inspirational leader, you will provide organisational and system-wide leadership as well as an understanding of the regulatory and political context that WorkSafe operates within. The capacity to influence the future of the organisation’s interests will be key to your success. Equally, an ability to drive collaboration with organisations and individuals to support positive change in systems, processes and importantly, attitudes and behaviours, will be critical.
