The Chief Financial Officer role forms part of the Finance, Planning and Assurance (FPA) directorate, a group who lead the provision of specialist advice and support in the areas of commercial, legal and financial management; audit, integrity and risk; project management; external planning and reporting; and services to the NZ Parole Board.

As a member of the FPA Senior Leadership Team, you will be motivated by the opportunity to lead, inspire and continuously evolve the financial stewardship of Ara Poutama Aotearoa.  Specific functions within this role include Financial Control, Strategic Finance, Data Services, and Finance Business Partnering and Analytics.  You’ll bring professional credibility and a confident presence to this position – you are an engaging and trusted sounding board who encourages shared points of view and forward-thinking decision-making.  This will extend to successfully leading and fostering our relationships with key partners including Audit NZ, Treasury and through proactive Governance participation. 

Ara Poutama Aotearoa is a large, 24/7 business, managing complex information both for our Department and the wider Justice Sector, so your commercial savvy will be key to navigating this unique landscape, as will your ability to continuously lead forward-thinking analysis and deliver ongoing financial milestones, at pace.

We are looking for someone with the following skillset to ensure they can make the most of this significant leadership opportunity:

  • Strategic financial leadership experience
  • Financial stewardship – with proven success in managing high performing teams
  • Highly developed senior financial management skills and experience
  • Finely tuned system thinking and analytical skills – can translate strategy into action and ensure multi-year financial sustainability
  • Knowledge of or interest in the Justice sector and its trends and issues
  • Exceptional relationship management skills with the ability to influence
  • Sound ability to plan and deliver ongoing milestones
  • The ability to operate effectively in a Māori cultural setting

To be eligible for this role you must have the right to work in New Zealand, the ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance through NZSIS, and hold both a tertiary qualification and CA membership through CAAANZ.
