The Team: What we do

The Anxiety Disorders Service, a Specialty Mental Health Service of the Canterbury District Health Board, provides specialist assessment and treatment to people whose everyday life is significantly affected by an anxiety disorder. This service consists of a multi-disciplinary team comprised of a Consultant Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Nurse Therapists, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Registrar, Physiotherapist, Dietitician and administration staff.

We’re currently looking for a Clinical Psychologist with Mental Health experience to join our team on a full-time (1.0FTE/40hr per week) fixed-term basis until approximately end of December 2020. The days and hours required for this role are Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 5pm.

This role will be based at Hillmorton Hospital, although some travel may be required for the purpose of home-visits with consumers.

The Role: Where you fit in

In this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Conducting psychiatric assessments of consumers
  • Developing and implementing treatment plans with the aim of decreasing impacts on consumers, their families, caregivers, significant others, and the community
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), both individual and group treatment, for a range of anxiety disorders
  • Providing information and education to consumers and their family/whanau to improve mental health outcomes

Your skills will include the following:

  • Registration with the NZ Psychologists Board and current Annual Practicing Certificate is essential
  • Clinical and/or mental health scope of practice is essential
  • Familiarity with and experience utilising CBT with adults who have a range of mental health issues including anxiety and depression
  • Sound communication skills with the ability to build rapport with clients and health providers
  • As some travel may be required, a full NZ driver’s licence is essential

Regular supervision will be provided by a senior member of the Anxiety Disorders Service and the successful applicant will be supported to attend appropriate training courses relevant to the treatment of anxiety disorders and the role.
