Are you a head coach looking for a new role combined with a business opportunity?

Kiwi West Aquatics Incorporated (KWA) is a swim club in Palmerston North with a focus on developing and supporting our athletes’ journey from beginning club swimmer to high performance in competition. Though well-known for development of competitive swimmers, our club also has a significant number of members swimming to support other sporting codes.

KWA has had a long-term coaching partnership with the Nicholls family. Trevor started coaching the Kiwi Club in 1985, continuing this partnership when KWA was formed, and the West End Aquatic Centre was built. Andrew Nicholls took over as head coach in 2006, and this year will mark the 36th year of this partnership.

Andrew is departing this year to take up an overseas coaching role, so his business cannot continue to provide coaching services. Our club now seeks a commercial coaching partner to start on 1 July 2021.

Our club trains at the West End Aquatic Centre (25m indoor pool) and has secured access to pool space allowing training sessions through the week. The current programme operates from Monday to Sunday. The pool at West End School is operated by Hilton Brown Swimming who run learn-to-swim programmes for the community and school groups.

Partnership with our club would allow you to combine your coaching skills with a business opportunity. Be your own boss and build a coaching team. We encourage our coaching partners to participate directly in swimmer recruitment – this is key to growing your business revenue and our club membership.

We are looking for a coach partner for our club that will be able to:

  • Demonstrate proven experience in competitive swim coaching.
  • Bring a positive enthusiastic approach supporting both the development and well-being of our swimmers.
  • Co-ordinate a coaching team for junior to elite squad levels.
  • Ensure all coaching staff have current NZSCTA/ASCTA membership, and First Aid/CPR certificates.
  • Operate a sustainable coaching business.
  • Meet with prospective members and support the induction of new swimmers to grow our club.
  • Communicate clearly with swimmers and parents.
  • Ensure a member of the coaching team attends home and away swim meets.
  • Work constructively with our club committee.
  • Maintain our club’s mission to support excellence in swimming.
  • Other requirements

  • References supporting your proposal for partnership with KWA.
  • Your business will need to be GST registered, and be responsible for directly invoicing our swimmers for coaching services provided.
  • You must pass a NZ Police vetting process, and a credit check.
  • Our club squad training program includes 34 contact hours/week, with an additional 6 hours with Kiwi West Masters swimmers.

If you are interested or would like to know more, please contact our club President Dwight Holman by email [email protected] or on 021 629699.

Expressions of interest close at midnight on Monday 5th April 2021.
