The opportunity |
Te Whiwhinga mahi

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Enterprise Change, the Consulting Manager, Applied Design is accountable for ensuring the NZ Transport Agency has a world-class design capability available so we can take a human-centred and whole-of-system approach to designing our solutions.

Not only will this team support individual initiatives, but it will also help the Agency to understand the macro ‘system’ view of what we do and who we do it for, working closely with our insights and performance team to develop rich data and insight about our business’s performance from an end user’s viewpoint.

This role leads a multi-disciplinary team, which incorporates multiple practices that will work closely together to offer an integrated design capability to the Agency. The four practices are Behavioural Psychology, Design, Business Analysis, and Innovation. You will actively engage with other innovation / agile design initiatives across the government sector, partnering to bring outside-in thinking to the Agency, identifying new and emerging techniques which can be brought back to enrich NZTAs practice.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • a proven strategic capability, thought leadership and whole-of-system thinking
  • extensive experience using a range of design and analysis disciplines in complex environments
  • extensive experience leading large design and analysis focused teams across complex programmes
  • experience building capability, creating meaningful pathways
  • the ability to deal effectively with ambiguity
  • experience managing stakeholders at a senior level

This role requires someone with the ability to influence and gain credibility with senior leaders to actively contribute across the Enterprise Change Leadership team. Someone who can lead by example and really grow the team to deliver fit for purpose, human-centred, design solutions.
