Massey University Counselling Service currently have an opportunity for an experienced student counsellor/mental health professional to join us on the Wellington Campus full-time.

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • A collaborative approach to working in and across teams
  • Conduct initial risk assessment to support well-being and safety of students
  • Provide professional counselling support and services to students using a brief intervention therapy framework
  • Provide information and training to University students on topics of mental health and wellbeing
  • Actively participate in quality assurance and feedback processes at an individual and team level
  • Provision of guidance to teaching staff and other employees regarding the identification of students with personal or other issues needing support
  • Provide emergency assistance and support for students who are in a personal crisis situation
  • Liaise with, refer to, and work in close consultation with academic and professional staff, community organisations to ensure students are consistently and appropriately supported throughout their university experience
  • The employment setting will involve work with people across the lifespan and applicants will be required to comply with the requirements of the Vulnerable Children Act 2014 and the Vulnerable Children (Requirements for Safety Checks of Children’s Workers) Regulations 2015

As the successful applicant you will be part of a collaborative and multi-disciplinary Health team, provide counselling to a diverse student population, working at times, in challenging and complex contexts. You will have demonstrated experience working across the lifespan, particularly the 18-25 year old age group. Those with experience with Tangata Whaiora and kaupapa Maori models of health will be a distinct advantage.
