Curriculum Lead (M&#257ori Medium Focus)

While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for every child, young person and adult student in our education system.

We are building new capability to provide national curriculum support through our regional network in Sector Enablement & Support to support schools, kura and wharekura, early learning services and Ngā Kōhanga Reo. We understand that to provide great curriculum support to ākonga working collaboratively works best.

About this role

This is a new and unique opportunity to support kaiako to design and implement marau ā-kura that supports children and young people’s wellbeing. This role is intended specifically to support all kura Māori and Māori medium settings. You will be based in the regional office and be part of a newly formed national team working closely with kura, Māori medium settings, kōhanga reo and our reo Māori early learning centres to:

Provide hands-on support to kaiako so they can deliver high-quality marau ā-kura with a focus on wellbeing.
Work alongside whānau, hapū and iwi to design a curriculum that reflects the aspirations of all ākonga, is aligned to the national curriculum and reflects local, community and iwi needs.
Work with curriculum rauemi and guidelines.
Build collaborative networks within communities and actively share local practices.

About you

To be successful in this role you will need:

A high level of proficiency in te reo Māori and a current knowledge of and commitment to kura, whānau hapū and iwi tikanga and kawa.
An in-depth understanding and/or experience in implementing Te Whāriki, including Te Whāriki a Te Kōhanga Reo, Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and the New Zealand Curriculum.
Extensive knowledge and experience in teaching and learning, leadership, curriculum and assessment theory and practice, and an ability to support professional change within kura, Māori medium settings, wharekura, reo Māori early learning centres and/or Kōhanga Reo level.
Experiential knowledge and competencies in supporting curriculum design that has evidenced improved outcomes for diverse communities.
Strong facilitation and interpersonal skills, diplomacy and an ability to adapt to different interaction styles and contexts.
Proven experience of building and maintaining effective relationships with whanau and community groups.
Values, behaviours and understandings that enhance practice in all Māori Medium settings.
