An opportunity has become available for a full-time Customs Officer in Tauranga. In this role, you will be identifying and preventing potential security and community risks coming in and out of New Zealand. As a Customs Officer, you will have a high level of integrity, honesty and discretion. You will also be interacting with a wide range of people from all walks of life’ and will help ensure a quality passenger experience. 

If successful, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Process passengers and goods in/out of Aotearoa which can include search activities
  • Facilitate legitimate trade and travel, collect import and export data
  • Intercept contraband (such as drugs and weapons), investigate and prosecute offences
  • Inspect cargo and mail, assess and collect duty/GST on imports.

Working as part of a small tight knit and busy team, you will cover everything from marine (all craft types – commercial, yachts, cruise ships and fishing vessels), all Service Delivery functions, a large excise clientele, inspections and private flights at Hamilton and Rotorua airports.

Applicants are required to be permanent residents or New Zealand citizens. You must also be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.  The successful candidate will also be required to undergo a drug test.
