What you will do

As Team Leader of our newly established Cyber Vulnerability team, you will be responsible for the day to day operational requirements of the team. You will prioritise their work load in alignment with the NZDF business values, liaise with members of the NZDF who will be your customers and plan interactions with members of our Five Eyes Community.
Your first priority will be to implement the processes and framework for how the team interacts with and collaborates across the New Zealand Defence Force.

In addition you will:

  • Perform network penetration, code review, review design security and configuration, including findings, results and recommendations based on test records;
  • Be responsible for the validation of results within the Cyber Vulnerability Team;
  • Assist with investigating, documenting, response and reporting on cyber security vulnerabilities and emerging trends;
  • Provide input on any identified current vulnerabilities, weakness and possible upgraded or improvements;
  • Shape the team – contribute to the daily briefings,  managing, training and development.

Please note: The formal title for this role within NZDF is Vulnerability Team Lead.

What we need

We would like to hear from you if you are an experienced IT security practitioner with a broad skill base across various IT security subject areas. You will be joining a team that will deliver key security and initiatives amid a relatively new landscape.

To be considered for this position you will need to demonstrate:

  • Experience in Penetration and Vulnerability Assessments;
  • An aptitude for leadership including mentoring, coaching and guiding others;
  • Experience with developing policy and procedures;
  • Knowledge in security and network technologies;
  • A good understanding of the NZ Information Security Manual (NZISM) and have knowledge of the PSR.

Please note: To be eligible for this role, you must have been a NZ Citizen for at least the last 10 years.

  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 15 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
