Data Analyst, Research & Development

The Office of the Auditor-General is looking for an experienced Data Analyst to join our Research and Development (R&D) team. If you have well-developed analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, and have a strong commitment to improving the public sector, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

Reporting to the Director, Data and Analysis, you’ll be carrying out research and analysis projects that align with and inform the current and emerging priorities of the Office. You’ll be working individually and with colleagues to explore, collect, and analyse data from various internal and external sources.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • a relevant tertiary qualification;
  • the ability to gather and understand data, then manipulate, analyse, and evaluate it;
  • experience in designing, building, or improving data processes and business intelligence solutions;
  • enthusiasm for big data and emerging database technologies;
  • strong technical and advanced Excel skills; and
  • the ability to learn quickly and solve problems, with good communication and relationship management skills and a “can do” attitude.

Ideally, you’ll also know about:

  • accounting, auditing, and assurance principles and their practical application;
  • Microsoft SQL Server (2008 or later) and the related BI stack;
  • PowerPivot, Analysis ToolPak, and Power Map; and
  • data visualisation tools, such as Tableau, QlikView, Business Objects, and Cognos and/or statistical analysis packages (R, SSPS, SAS).
