Reporting to the Data Analytics Research Leader within the Forest Informatics Team, you will:Advance Scion’s interest in applying data science to revolutionise how forestry operatesUse data science and scientific modelling skills in a research and development settingProvide high-quality data science services and software to Scion and to the forest industryWork collaboratively with colleagues and customers to identify and implement solutions to industry data analytics needsProvide technical support in multi-disciplinary teams in the fields of data analytics, statistics and machine learning, visualisation and distributed computing techniquesWhat are we looking for?PhD or MSc qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant field desirable, e.g. Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering.Proven track record of research or innovation that is of the highest international standard (e.g. publications in leading journals, or major data science innovationProficiency with programming languages (e.g. Python, R) and software development tools and methods (e.g. Git, test driven development, continuous integration).An understanding of scientific modelling and reproducible research is highly desirable.Proven experience in data modelling (e.g. statistical modelling).Expertise in deep learning and machine learning is desirable.Expertise in data engineering (e.g. ELT) and distributed computing technologies (e.g. Hadoop, Spark) and services (e.g. Amazon AWS) is desirable.Expertise in data visualisation and presentation is desirable.Proven track record of research or innovation that is of high international standard (e.g. publications in leading journals, or major data science innovation).Ability to plan and execute small to medium-sized projects.
