About NIWA

NIWA is a dynamic research organisation whose purpose is to enhance the economic value and sustainable management of Aotearoa New Zealand’s marine and freshwater resources, to provide understanding of climate and atmospheric state and processes, and increase resilience to weather and climate-related hazards to improve safety and wellbeing of New Zealanders.

The position/s

We invite applications from outstanding candidates interested in developing and integrating the next generation of cutting-edge data science methods – including artificial intelligence (AI), and machine Learning (ML) – into NIWA’s scientific and commercial research, products, and services. Some key areas of interests in our programme include, but are not limited to:

Data scientists will undertake direct and complex Data Science utilising the supercomputing capability available in NIWA’s High Performance Computing Facility (HPCF), and will help to develop training, systems, fast-starts, and tools to support scientists working across NIWA.

Data scientists will be expected to represent NIWA as authorities on HPC and Environmental Data Science/AI in national and international fora and communities.
