The Health and Disability Commissioner (HDC) promotes and protects the rights of health and disability services of consumers and facilitates the fair and efficient resolution of complaints relating to infringements of those rights.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a leadership role within the HDC legal team as Deputy Chief Legal Advisor. The legal team is a collegial and high performing team, which undertakes a wide variety of legal and advisory work, including in relation to the Health and Disability Commissioner’s complaints resolution jurisdiction.

 

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • relevant legal experience (at least five years PQE);
  • strong academic background;
  • sound knowledge of health care law, public law generally and administrative law in particular;
  • a breadth and depth of legal and relationship management skills;
  • a well developed understanding of policy issues affecting the interests of health and disability services’ consumers;
  • leadership and staff management experience and ability;
  • sound judgement and analytical ability;
  • excellent oral and written communication skills; and
  • the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment
