About the role | Mō te tūnga

Reporting into the Regional Commissioner – Lower North Region, the Deputy Regional Commissioner is a key leadership role that will undertake governance oversight on behalf of the Regional Commissioner across a number of critical business operational areas. The role will further oversee Ara Poutama Aotearoa’s engagement and participation in joint Justice Sector governance initiatives within the region and other functions as directed by the Regional Commissioner. You will play a key role in taking Ara Poutama Aotearoa to the next stage of its development.

About you | Mōu

We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate proven experience in a senior management role within a complex business operational environment, ideally within the public sector. You will be someone with the ability to think conceptually and make the big picture connections while remaining attuned to the everyday operational business issues.

With Hōkai Rangi as our key organisational strategy, there is a strong change focus to this role so you must be comfortable championing and role modelling change This presents an opportunity to shape the role and have visibility across all levels of the organisation, therefore you will present with a high level of business and financial acumen, the agility to evolve and enhance practice to ensure capability is raised and in doing so contribute to driving the region forward.

The successful appointee will demonstrate the proven skills and ability to think laterally in order to address complex business issues, and capability to establish strong relationships both internally and externally with critical stakeholders. Experience in working on cross agency initiatives is highly desirable. To this end, you will present with exemplary interpersonal skills that encourage commitment from others, and demonstrate personal drive, integrity, and commitment to the department as one organisation.

Ideally, you will have experience in working with Kaupapa Māori and a good knowledge of Te Reo.  The salary band for this position is $166,781 – $196,213.
