Te Tai Ōhanga – The Treasury is the New Zealand Government’s lead economic and financial advisor.  Our vision is to be a world-leading Treasury working towards higher living standards for New Zealanders.

We are a dynamic and evolving organisation committed to driving high performance, growth and success.   In an exciting period of change, we have an opportunity for an exceptional financial and commercial executive to join our team as the Deputy Secretary, Financial & Commercial.

Reporting to the Secretary and Chief Executive, and as member of the Treasury’s Executive Leadership Team, you will provide organisation-wide leadership, as well as represent the Treasury in New Zealand and internationally.

You will be responsible for the strategic direction of the Treasury’s work programmes that ensure provision of financial and commercial advice to government, monitoring and advice on the Crown’s ownership interests, effective debt management, and management of the Crown’s balance sheet.  You will work collaboratively to develop strategy, drive the development of critical strategic work programmes, and to build relationships with major stakeholders to address challenges and opportunities facing New Zealand.

With a track record of successful, inspiring and progressive senior leadership, you are known for your successes in building partnerships based on influential advice.  Intellectually capable, pragmatic, and a strong communicator, you are a highly effective relationship builder across a range of audiences including agencies and at Ministerial level. Resilience and ownership of challenges and change will sit comfortably with you, as will managing ambiguity.

To succeed in this role, you will have significant financial, commercial and analytical expertise and credibility, with proven achievements and the ability to deliver through others in the strategic and policy space, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications.

The Treasury values diversity and inclusion and encourages a positive work/life balance with flexible work arrangements and a range of health and wellbeing initiatives.
