Development Coordinator of Transitional Housing

Permanent / Full Time

  • Help improve outcomes by monitoring, reviewing and developing the programme
  • Part of a proactive, innovative and collaborative national team
  • Based in Cuba Street, Wellington – home of café culture

The Salvation Army Transitional Housing Team is working with the Government to provide safe, dry and warm houses for people experiencing homelessness or finding themselves without a place to stay. They have over 600 units nationwide that offer support to whānau and individuals, to find solutions to better their situation and find permanent housing.

The need for transitional housing has expanded enormously within Aotearoa over the last few years and more so in the last few months, with further demand expected. The role of Development Coordinator has recently been created to support the demand and delivery of this programme.

The Development Coordinator will provide senior specialist support in helping to monitor, review and further develop the programme to improve outcomes. Advising on and supporting best practice, updating online resources, ensuring training material is up to date and quality assurance of the programme will be a key focus, as the Army looks to further grow this community high need.

Transitional housing is delivered nationwide, so some travel may be required for training purposes and regional visits. The majority of work however will be done from Wellington head office.

Experience having worked with Ministry contracts and programme delivery within the social services environment, coupled with study in this sector, would be preferred. A creative flare and having worked on design and branding would also be a bonus.

The ability to build positive working relationships and work collaboratively with your colleagues as a team and external stakeholders is a must. The Salvation Army has a diverse client base, of varying ethnicities and backgrounds, and they need someone who has proven experience building bicultural partnerships, including working closely with the Māori Community.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a group of hardworking professionals who have a commitment to supporting whānau, and to work with a long-standing social service provider as they partner with community to tackle homelessness.

Person Profile:

  • A background in programme delivery within the social services sector
  • Very highly developed written and oral communication skills
  • Strong relationship building and networking capabilities at all levels
  • Strong cultural competency, with the ability to work from a bicultural perspective
  • A commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army
  • A social work background would be advantageous, as would previous experience in the transitional housing sector
