The Department of Conservation has a grand vision – New Zealand is the greatest living space on earth. In order to achieve this, our organisation requires dedicated and influential leaders throughout the country to build high performing teams who feel inspired, day in day out, to strive towards our ambitious goals.
The role of Director, Operations leading the Hauraki, Waikato and Taranki region presents this very challenge.
Reporting to the Deputy Director-General, Operations, you will lead a large and complex region with five district offices based in Whitianga, Thames, Hamilton, Te Kuti and New Plymouth. This is a 24-month fixed term opportunity to cover as our current director will be on secondment to another role within the organisation.
You will provide strategic leadership to the essential biodiversity, recreation/historic and community engagement conservation work delivered on the ground. This role involves maintaining close relationships with a large number of iwi partners and a high level of engagement with commercial, community and government entities.
To be successful in this role you will need to be an excellent relationship manager, experience in working with a wide range of stakeholders. You will be an experienced senior leader skilled at inspiring, motivating and directing large teams operating across multiple locations. The way in which you operate will foster a culture of continuous improvement where health, safety and wellbeing is a top priority for all staff.
While there is some flexibility, we would like the successful candidate to be based in Hamilton. Due to the dispersed nature of your team, a considerable amount of travel will also be required.
If you are a proven people leader who is eager to lead our passionate teams towards making New Zealand the greatest living space on earth, we would love to hear from you.
