Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) is a diverse government agency that impacts most New Zealanders. We do this by pursuing four outcomes: helping ensure geographic and property information contributes to better decision making; that New Zealanders continue to benefit from an up-to-date property rights system; that the Crowns land is put best to use; and that overseas ownership of sensitive assets is in New Zealand’s best interests.
Recent changes in our Policy and Overseas Investment (POI) Group has meant the creation of a new role – Director Policy. This role will be reporting to the Group Manager Policy and will see you established as a key member of the POI leadership team. You’ll act as a trusted advisor and sounding board to the Group Manager, and the wider team. You will have the opportunity to be one of our key influencers as you work to ensure that LINZ’s policy advice is strategy led and promote the alignment between strategic, operational and regulatory policy advice within LINZ.
Working collaboratively across central and local government on significant policy reforms, you’ll be taking the lead on complex policy projects and the development of new policy. You will be taking an organisation and system wide policy view, utilising the intellect, sharp analysis and proactive leadership strategies you’re known for.
This position would be a strategic move for your career with excellent professional and managerial development on offer. No two days will be the same, from mentoring and coaching a high-performing team member, to dealing with a complex policy issue through to providing frank advice to the Minister – this role will give you the variety you need and want, while balancing your career progression aspirations.
As a strong influencer you’ll easily build effective working partnerships across our stakeholders, including Ministers and other government agencies. LINZ is a smaller organisation, but we have taken measures to ensure that our Policy team showcases and develops our internal talent and our people get exposure to our continually interesting and organisation-essential portfolio of work.
Ideally, you’ll come to us from a similar role having extensive policy development experience and demonstrated leadership experience across large policy teams.
LINZ is one of the most engaged organisations in the public sector and people always say what a great place LINZ is to work. As an organisation LINZ embraces diversity, encourages work life balance and we have a flexible approach to the way we work which means you will quickly feel connected and valued. This is a fantastic role which will allow you to be involved in challenging and politically visible work that impacts positively on New Zealand’s future.
