The Director Protective Security is a key member of the NZSIS Senior Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Director-General.

The Protective Security Directorate delivers a full range of protective security functions to the New Zealand Intelligence Community and for New Zealand.

In this role you will be responsible for assisting key New Zealand public and private sector institutions in mitigating their insider threat risks through effective security clearance management, vetting services and counter-intelligence functions.

We are looking for a candidate with senior government experience with demonstrated skills in leading significant change and capability development programmes. This experience and skill will ensure your success in delivering outcomes of the New Zealand Intelligence Community’s Four Year Plan, including successful implementation of the Government’s Protective Security Requirement Programme and embedding a step-change lift in vetting services that are user-friendly and valued by customers.

To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively you must hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.

You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
