The Energy & Resource Markets branch is responsible for leading the management and responsible development of New Zealand’s energy and resource sector, from the upstream development of our countries petroleum and mineral assets to the downstream management of energy markets.

An exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced leader to join the Energy & Resource Markets branch as the Director Sector Engagement.

The Director Sector Engagement is a leadership position within the Energy & Resource Markets branch and reports to the General Manager, Energy & Resource Markets. The role is responsible for ensuring the branch is able to best maximise its engagement with the energy and resource sectors through developing and implementing the branch’s approach to strategic stakeholder engagement.

The Director Sector Engagement will work closely with the rest of the leadership team to ensure all stakeholder engagement plans and activities are aligned to the branch’s key strategic objectives and considers the impacts on policy and operational teams. The role will also provide stakeholder and sector advice and guidance on cross-branch and group initiatives.


To be successful in this position you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Proven experience leading the development and implementation of stakeholder engagement strategies in a large, complex public sector organisation
  • Experience working in the natural resources sector at a senior level
  • The ability to develop trust and credibility with senior stakeholders across both the public and private sectors
  • Proven experience in lifting sector behaviour in a complex regulatory system, through proactive engagement and partnership techniques
  • A solid understanding of the key influences on the New Zealand economy and business environment
