Diversity & Engagement Advisors – Office of Ethnic Communities (OEC)Auckland -based Permanent RolesThe Office of Ethnic Communities (OEC) is located within the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) which serves and connects people, communities and government to build a safe, prosperous and respected nation. New Zealand is home to more than 200 ethnic groups, and as the government’s authoritative advisor on ethnic diversity, the OEC is uniquely placed to realise the potential and benefits that such diversity brings.A Diversity & Engagement Advisor:develops, maintains and brokers highly effective relationships with and between ethnically diverse and inter-faith communities, local and central government agencies and other stakeholders, including hapū and iwi;effects the transfer of knowledge, skills, and resources to assist ethnically diverse communities to identify and implement community based solutions to community issues;provides high quality specialist advice on opportunities available to ethnically diverse and inter-faith communities;actively supports the Minister for Ethnic Communities and the Director OEC at all community engagement events; andably represents OEC at all times.Key to your success will be a proven ability to work alongside ethnically diverse and inter-faith communities, to enable them to become resilient and achieve their aspirations. You will also have an analytical mind and your customer service ethic will underpin all that you do.You will have a professional attitude and be able to evidence:excellent relationship management and collaboration skills;experience and knowledge of principles and practices of community engagementknowledge of, and experience in, providing advice that builds and empowers ethnically diverse and inter-faith communities;commitment to lift capability and influence policies and services;ability to rapidly adapt in a high change environment;understanding of the importance of integrity and neutrality in the public service;strong communication skills – written and oral;ability to plan, organise and manage work effectively; andstrong digital literacy skills are essential as we work in a digital office environmentSome travel is involved and a full New Zealand driver’s licence, or commitment to obtaining one, is essential.
