Position overview

Massey University is committed to creating and maintaining an environment that is diverse, inclusive and welcoming for all people. Several years ago Massey University became Rainbow Tick certified and we are looking to further our commitment to gender and sexually diverse members of the Massey community through the establishment of a Diversity and Inclusion Advisor role with a specific focus on enhancing the experience and outcomes of gender and sexually diverse students.

The role will be based within the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Students and Alumni and specifically with the University Student Services portfolio. The incumbent will be a key member of a productive and collaborative team working to create a learning, living and social environment at the University that enables all students to achieve their potential.

This role will have a wide reach working with, and for, gender and sexually diverse students across our three physical campuses, online across New Zealand, and around the world. We are looking for someone with a personal commitment to, and enthusiasm for all diversity and inclusion issues who wants to make a difference in the lives of our tauira.

Key responsibilities of the role include the following:

  • Collaborating with other University community members on the establishment and implementation of a set of key priority actions that support a positive experience for our gender and sexually diverse
  • Developing programmes, projects and involvement opportunities through an intersectional, equity and inclusion lens that appeals to our diverse student body
  • Providing a consultative role to the University community in relation to equity, diversity and inclusion best practice and policy development
  • Facilitating opportunities for students to engage with social justice topics and in collaboration with the Student Development team help build foundations for future advocacy and active citizenship

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Demonstrate awareness of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, its relevance in relation to the work of the University and its contribution to Aotearoa New Zealand society
  • Have relevant qualification or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training
  • Have knowledge of issues and policies affecting students in higher education, especially relating to equity and equal opportunity and specifically focused ongender and sexually diverse
  • Demonstrate ability to develop and coordinate complex diversity and inclusion resources, programmes and projects
  • Demonstrate ability to provide high-level consultation and advice on equity, diversity, and inclusivity in higher education

This position is full-time and the successful candidate has the option to be based at any one of our three campuses (Auckland, Palmerston North or Wellington).
