  • Summary:

Inland Revenue is an essential part of the fabric of New Zealand. We collect most of the revenue that our government needs to fund and administer the significant social and economic policy programmes that provide support and care for the people of this country.

We want to be a world-class revenue organisation who make it simple, open and more certain for people to pay their taxes and receive their entitlements, and we have spent the last few years realigning all aspects of our organisation to enable this to happen. We have updated technology and introduced agile and multi-disciplinary teams who network together to create outcomes for the government and people. IR is delivering in an ever-increasing digital world, but it’s still for people.

The Enterprise Design & Integrity group is responsible for the services that provide advice, guidance and direction to ensure IR’s strategic intent is followed. These services include:

  • Corporate Legal
  • Governance and Ministerial Services
  • Integrity and Internal Assurance
  • Strategic Architecture
  • Strategic Portfolio Stewardship
  • Security Network
  • Privacy

The teams provide enterprise-wide oversight and assurance for the organisation so that our people and information are safe and secure. Strategic Architecture group is an enterprise function that ensures we are best placed to achieve our strategic intent over time through the design of services or solutions. We are accountable for:

  • Business Architecture
  • Technology Architecture
  • Security Architecture
  • End to end design
  • Product Ownership
  • Business & Process Analysis
  • Channel Management
  • Test Strategy & Management

This is very much a Business and Customer focused group. We are curious about how we can use technology in new and interesting ways to deliver the best possible outcome for our Customers. While doing this, we are also supporting the evolving needs of the NZ Government.

We are now seeking your interest in the Domain Lead (L2) role for the Technology Architecture team within Strategic Architecture. Responsible for a team of Solution, Integration and Security Architects, you will work collaboratively with your peers and colleagues to provide information that will inform and enable change across IR’s wider ecosystem.

This role will be at the forefront of the innovative use of new and existing technology to drive and influence IR’s strategic direction. You will be developing technology strategy and roadmaps relevant to where IR is heading while ensuring technology solutions are in line with strategic intent. You will do this by:

  • have or attain a deep understanding of IR’s primary services, what IR does and why do we do it
  • ensure technology architecture expertise is provided when designing and implementing solutions
  • thoroughly understand industry and external technology trends and applying this to an IR context
  • explore and recommend technology solution options and approaches
  • develop and support a small team of architects, ensuring the right mix of skills and capability to support the constant evolution of the technology landscape
  • assess impacts and outcomes across initiatives ranging from strategic to operational activities
  • guide change activities and support your team on individual delivery initiatives

As you lead your team within their specialist domain, you will need to have:

  • expertise in developing technology strategies for a medium to large sized organisation
  • a broad knowledge of technology trends and solutions
  • the ability to balance this with the practical reality of implementation – this role is not about developing theoretical roadmaps that have little chance of being implemented or real benefit
  • the ability to make tough decisions while being comfortable admitting ‘I don’t know’ when appropriate
  • a knack for problem solving while enabling others to find solutions to problems
  • the ability to influence based on your expert knowledge of technology and what is best for IR
  • experience leading people to be their best

This is your opportunity to continue to innovate and challenge yourself within our organisation. Please apply online, attach a copy of your CV and a Cover Letter outlining how you meet the role requirements as outlined here and in the Role Description and the Strategic Architecture blueprint document.
