Engineering Geologist / Geomorphologist We are seeking an early career Engineering Geologist or Engineering Geomorphologist, specialising in slope instability and landslide processes to undertake a range of research and consultancy projects relating to landslide hazards and their associated risks. The appointment will be based at Lower Hutt, Wellington region. New Zealand’s borders are currently closed to all but New Zealand citizens and permanent residents. International candidates will still be considered, however they might be required to work remotely as a contractor from overseas until New Zealand’s borders reopen. About youYou will have: A PhD in Engineering Geology or Engineering Geomorphology; At least 1 – 2 years’ experience in Engineering Geology or Engineering Geomorphology research and/or consulting; Essential skills in: Developing and planning new research in the field of Engineering Geology/Geomorphology. Assisting in the planning, execution and reporting of existing research and commercial projects. Working with and supervising technicians and/or other staff to undertake laboratory experiments to measure the strength properties of rocks and soils. Promoting and progressing Engineering Geology/Geomorphology research in active collaboration within geological, geotechnical and geophysical research. sectors within New Zealand and, where applicable, overseas Field mapping, rock mass survey and assessment, geophysics and sampling. Participating in teams Responding to extreme events. In addition, the preferred candidate should have: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in report writing and leading/ co-authoring scientific journal articles. A flexible and adaptable team player mentality. Good time management and organisational skills. Strong problem-solving skills On top of the technical skills required, you’ll also need to work independently, apply initiative as well as take instruction from a range of staff: high levels of energy and drive and want to work for a changing and evolving organisation.
