Help shape the future of Education

At the Ministry of Education, we work together to shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent outcomes.

Our organisation is made up of more than 3,000 talented and committed people around New Zealand, from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.

While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for every child, young person and adult student in our education system.

About our group and team

The Early Learning and Student Achievement (ELSA) group is a key part of the Ministry, with over 300 staff. It sets system-level learning standards and supports education leaders to lift progress and achievement for all children and young people. The group achieves this by advising on New Zealand’s curricula, the provision of personalised learning pathways, and a quality and sustainable education workforce.

The Education Workforce team supports the sector to build a workforce that has the capability and capacity to deliver high quality practice and can support innovation across the system to lift student achievement. This includes areas such as Teacher Supply, Scholarships and Awards and Employment Relations, including collective bargaining and pay equity.

About you

You will have proven significant experience relative to the role, ideally within the public sector. You will be an experienced, confident and competent EA who knows what it takes to support a senior leader.

It’s important to us that you’re comfortable working autonomously in an ambiguous environment and that you can meet the demands of this role with your ability to make sound decisions on behalf of the Associate Deputy Secretary.

  • Attention to detail and excellent time management and organisational skills
  • The ability to build and maintain strong relationships across a diverse group of contacts
  • The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.

If you thrive off playing a key role in a busy, growing team this could be perfect position for you.  There’s a real opportunity to make this role your own and develop your career further working at a senior level.

Are you ready to make a difference?
