Summary of Job Description:

To support the AbbVie NZ External Affairs objectives in building AbbVie’s political reputation, build and further develop relationships with political stakeholders to deliver a favourable policy and political environment to advance AbbVie’s ability to bring innovative therapies to patients.

**Major Responsibilities:**

**External:**

+ Maintain a deep understanding of current and anticipated future political and policy trends and ensure translation into AbbVie strategy, through the mapping and monitoring of the external political environment.

+ Develop and maintain relationships with key influencers within Government, public services, industry associations, professional bodies and other relevant bodies.

+ Identify opportunities within the political environment to drive dissemination and incorporation of AbbVie and Medicines NZ policy positions.

+ Drive delivery of specific TA specific external affairs activities

+ Participate in relevant Medicines NZ and multi-company task force initiatives where relevant. **Internal:**

+ Provide internal support and advice on political stakeholder engagement, and development of policy positions.

+ Act as brand team member for key products, leading development and implementation of brand specific advocacy strategies when required.

**Education/Experience Required:**

**Desirable:**

+ **Post** Graduate qualification in Health Policy/Government Relations or equivalent.

+ Knowledge of New Zealand political environment

+ Understanding of PHARMAC

+ Pharmaceutical industry experience

+ Understanding of Medicines New Zealand Code of Practice

**Essential Skills & Abilities:**

+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

+ Strong teamwork/collaboration skills

+ Diplomacy and discretion

+ Superior writing and presentation skills to craft and deliver clear, effective messages.

+ Ability to identify and develop strategic policy positions **Desirable:**

+ Existing relationships with Ministry of Health and politicians

+ Previous Government role

+ Previous experience within a health-related patient group or corporate environment

+ Policy development (Government/Allied Health Organisations) **Quality, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities:**

+ Attend regular departmental meetings with manager/supervisor to build in continuous feedback mechanisms.

+ Meet the requirements of ISO and Class A by complying with all relevant Quality policies and procedures to ensure the Quality objectives of the business are met.
