Senior ScientistForensic Science – Drug ChemistryPermanentESR-Mt Albert Science Centre, Auckland We are seeking a Senior Scientist to join our world-class forensic laboratory. This position will be principally responsible for the technical examination, analysis and reporting of suspected drug samples for presentation in court. You will be responsible for case management, overseeing all aspects of cases, coordinating various analyses and liaising with clients. You will prepare non-opinion and opinion-based reports, certificates and statements for presentation in court as required. The role will involve consulting and advising stakeholders regarding drugs casework and other scientific matters. In the laboratory you will be involved in the running, maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment including FTIR, GC-MS and UHPLC instrumentation. The ideal candidate will have relevant forensic knowledge and experience and a tertiary qualification in a science subject, preferably with chemistry as a major. The successful candidate must also have: Excellent teamwork and communication skillsKnowledge of laboratory safety practiceDemonstrated work experience and demonstrated ability to work independently across a range of technical duties.Ability to plan, collect data, analyse and report results for specific areas of work.A demonstrated area of technical skill or skills that enable them to undertake complex, specialist technical work.Problem-solving ability, particularly in relation to science methods.For this position you must have a current full drivers licence and you will be expected to participate in an on-call roster for the Customs-ESR Rapid Screening Laboratory at Auckland Airport. A pre-employment drug-screen, disclosure of criminal charges/convictions, proof of academic qualifications/papers, the provision of a staff elimination DNA sample and participation in ESRs immunisation programme are conditions of employment for this position
