Front of House – Senior

The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) supports the Governor-General in her role as the representative of New Zealand’s Head of State, Queen Elizabeth II, and to fulfil important constitutional, ceremonial, community and international roles.

The team at Government House ensures the effective support of the Governor-General, including planning, organising and delivery of all official engagements and events, and ensures the Their Excellencies are also supported daily through personal, discrete and attentive service.

We have a vacancy in our team for a Front of House and events specialist. The successful applicant will have experience delivering events, co-ordinating with local suppliers and multiple stakeholders to deliver successful, high quality results. Candidates are also expected to have a demonstrated understanding of high quality service and be capable of delivering personal discrete service to Their Excellencies.

You will be provided an opportunity to step into a role supporting a highly visible leader, where you will be an important member of the service delivery team. You will be a team player, flexible and willing to pick up a range of tasks to support our objectives. Most importantly, you’ll come with a keen eye for detail and delivery of high level events.

The Role:

You will work closely with Team Leaders across Government House Wellington, including Programme and Events team, FOH permanent and casual wait staff, household and kitchen staff to deliver a wide variety of hospitality tasks. This position will require you to:

  • Provide daily personal and discrete support services to Their Excellence’s.
  • Assist in planning and delivering high quality hospitality to Their Excellences, their guests, and visitors to Government House.
  • Engage with stakeholders and suppliers and maintain supplier relationships including procurement and contract administration
  • Promote the Office and Household of the Governor-General through co-operative internal working relationships and handling external contacts with discretion and efficiency.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Responsibility for planning and managing the delivery of events for Their Excellencies
  • Providing personal and discrete personal service to Their Excellencies
  • Ensuring that all managers and staff are kept informed on FOH arrangements for functions and events
  • Promoting the Office and Household of the Governor-General by handling external contacts with discretion and efficiency


Skills and Experience:

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in FOH hospitality and/or function and events delivery.
  • Demonstrate excellent computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office suite.
  • The utmost standards of punctuality, reliability, honesty and integrity.
  • Ability to work as a team and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Able to maintain a high standard of personal presentation at all times. 


We need someone who is flexible, possesses a strong attention to detail, is committed to and understands quality service. You need to be available to be part of a rotating roster and, if required, have the availability to work weekends and travel to Government House Auckland.
