We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Head Chef to join our team at Air NZ Technical Operations Staff Café, at Auckland Airport. We operate Monday to Friday, hours of work will be discussed, approx. 5am-1.30pm although flexibility is required for this position.

Our Air NZ site is the recently renovated staff café, offering a range of great food and beverages. In this position you will be in a leadership role working alongside the onsite manager to develop innovative, seasonal and modern daily menus with a focus on modern café and cabinet food, that need to be well costed, well priced, ensuring the health and wellbeing of our customers through allergen and nutrition management. You will also assist in training and development of onsite staff to continuously improve quality, operations and performance.

You will be working alongside the front of house team to create exciting and memorable experience for all Air NZ employees and visitors. You must enjoy working and staying positive in a busy environment creating high quality food and must also be able to work to a high standard without supervision.

If you’re our perfect candidate you will be hard working, have a passion for great food, a friendly outgoing personality and a ‘can do’ attitude. You will already have at least 3 years’ proven work experience in a similar chef position in a modern cafe with relevant leadership experience and you will hold food safety certificates (Unit Standard 167 and 168). You will have experience and skill in modern café cuisine and presenting cabinets and A la Carte food to a high standard and will put strong emphasis on quality, presentation while being a great communicator. You will competently juggle multiple demands within a challenging environment but, most importantly, you will demonstrate a passion for great food, customer service and quality.

Applicants with their own transport, the ability to work flexible hours and days, including the occasional later afternoon shift when necessary will be viewed as a large asset. Experience in modern café cuisine, a great work attitude and willingness to learn is a necessity.
