About Us | Mō mātou

Data Ventures focuses on bringing together the right data across private and public sectors that are not readily available or accessible. We aim to remove the road blocks that prevent access  to data to help customers make the best decisions for their businesses.

We ve been successful in supporting Aotearoa NZ s COVID-19 response, providing critical datasets to pandemic modelling and reporting on how well we behaved during the different alert levels.

Our work isn t finished; there s now a focus on how can we measure and monitor the recovery of the economy and wellbeing of Aoteroa New Zealand.

The role | Mō te tūnga

As Head of Operations, you report to the Executive Director (ED) of Data Ventures, and are second in charge, deputising for the ED when required. This is a critical internally focused role and you ll be responsible for operational strategy, commercial direction and internal systems. There s also an external focus and responsibility to lead data provider relationships, who are key stakeholders to our customers success.

As a senior leader, you re also a key member of the Stats NZ s Senior Leadership team accountable for planning for our future, demonstrating collective leadership, and delivering agreed outputs to budget that support and achieve our overall strategic intentions.

About you | Mōu

We re looking for someone with a good understanding of how government agencies work and who enjoys engaging with other leaders to gain mutual benefits. To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven operational leadership experience with business planning and forecasting, especially through periods of growth.
  • Experience of brokering value between two parties ensuring on-going and long-term relationships
  • Strong strategic thinking and conceptual skills, sound commercial judgement and well-developed financial management skills
  • Proven relationship, negotiation, interpersonal, coaching and listening skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of an organisation
  • Political nous with the ability to build and maintain trust and confidence of customers and stakeholders (ideally within a government context)
