Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, NZ and supporting the ANZ Group Head of Wholesale Credit Risk, this role is critical in enhancing the credit risk and return trade-off for the NZ portfolio, helping drive the business unit’s transformation and change agenda and creating a strong risk culture. As a risk champion and ‘culture carrier’, you will provide leadership, direction and specialist credit risk management expertise for the wholesale business in NZ, including both Institutional and Business segments. Your key accountabilities in this role will include: Working with first line senior management to develop and implement credit risk management strategies including understanding emerging risks and providing informed responses in line with risk appetite and tolerance levels. Delivering a focus on Risk Weighted Asset (RWA) optimisation in the wholesale portfolio and promoting effective and optimised utilisation of the balance sheet. Demonstrating a forward-looking portfolio approach by understanding how changing macroeconomic, environmental and industry conditions impact customers and portfolios, ensuring business unit strategies for customers are logical and aligned with risk appetite and tolerance levels, and taking appropriate risk mitigation actions. Working with the business to improve end to end credit processes and quality, simplifying processes and policy to ensure speed to market and decision making authority and ensuring credit risk processes are designed and operating to deliver compliance with regulatory obligations. Maintaining close working relationships with ANZ Group Risk to ensure adherence to Group Risk strategy and consultation on relevant priorities, policies and projects. This includes representing NZ’s interest with Group Wholesale Credit Risk counterparts and acting as a leader for establishing and managing Group Wholesale Credit Risk Policy at ANZ. Providing leadership direction and support to the risk transformation and change programme. Leading and engaging a high performing team including role modelling ANZ’s values and leadership behaviours and fostering a learning culture that actively supports the ongoing development of people. Actively contributing to the NZ Risk Leadership Team. About You To grow and be successful in this role, you’ll ideally bring the following: A reputation as a ‘culture carrier’ who role models leadership behaviours aligned to ANZ’s values. Demonstrated expertise in strategic credit risk management and wholesale credit operational risk and compliance. Substantive leadership experience in risk management and a deep understanding of the Banking and Financial services sector. Demonstrated experience balancing risk and commercial outcomes appropriately. Proven capability to effectively manage internal and external relationships and influence across the enterprise, including ideally at Board level and with regulators. The ability to negotiate and work through conflict effectively and challenge to a resolution. Capability to identify and synthesise multiple sources of information to make sound decisions that encompass the needs of the bank, our communities and customers.
