What you will do

This position guides the management and oversight of Air Force Safety and Health outputs as a subject matter expert. You will be responsible to the Director and support Directorate of Air Force Safety and Health (DASH) activities at all levels to ensure they are able to be performed in line with NZDF policy and legislative and regulatory requirements with respect to safety in the workplace.

The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for the management and professional overview of the RNZAF Safety Management System (SMS), with the aim of enhancing safety best practice in policy, audit, assessment, education and training.

This position provides information, principally to senior command and specialist safety and health advisors, to all RNZAF bases including exercises and overseas deployments. This role is also responsible for the management of Safety Advisor, Safety Audit, Emergency Response and Safety Education positions as well as RNZAF Hazardous Substances test certifiers.
 
What we need
 
We are seeking a person with in depth knowledge of contemporary NZ workplace safety and health legislation and regulatory requirements. You will have knowledge of and experience in the development, implementation and management of a Safety Management System, including related policies and operational process documentation.
 
This experience enables you to conduct research into complex safety issues and provide accurate and informative reports and conduct safety investigations using ICAM methodology (or similar) to deliver associated reports.
 
You will bring a significant amount of experience in occupational safety and health management at a corporate level including strong leadership and team management skills.
 
Having excellent communication and interpersonal skills you can relate confidently to a wide range of people. These skills will aid you in developing and delivering relevant safety training and other presentations. You have great computer skills across the Microsoft Office suite.
 
In terms of qualifications we require a graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent academic qualification.
 
Experience and/or qualifications in Hazardous Substances Class 2-9, professional certification with and membership of a recognised professional safety organisation and experience in an aviation environment is desirable.
